Actress, producer and beloved horror icon Felissa Rose first made her film debut as Angela Baker in Robert Kiltzik's cult classic film Sleepaway Camp (1983) making her a bonafide slasher icon ever since. Felissa has since acted in countless films in and out of the horror genre including Victor Crowley and will be starring in the upcoming highly anticipated sequel to Terrifier. As a producer she has done music videos for Slayer and continues to produce horror films for Vernon Wells. As a beloved scream queen and indie darling – Felissa is without a doubt a fan favourite at every convention with her infectious smile, genuine kindness and passion for the horror genre. We are so glad to have had the opportunity to catch up with her at the last Shock Stock in London, Ontario. Check it out!
GWG: Thank you so much for being here to chat with us here at Shock Stock.
FELISSA: Thank you for having me.
GWG: You started out acting at such a young age with a role that would go on to not only start your career in film but change the horror slasher genre - did you have any idea of what you were getting yourself into with Sleepaway Camp?
FELISSA: Oh my gosh (laughs) NO! I just talking about how interesting a role it was for a really young girl. I was 12 when I auditioned and 13 when I made the movie and there’s a lot in that character even though she doesn’t speak much but I didn’t know at the time. I certainly didn’t know we would still be talking about it years later so I’m super grateful for the part. I always said it gave me a life - my husband was a huge fan and just being at the conventions in general has really been amazing.
GWG: Sleepaway set the tone for teen camp slasher films and is a massive cult classic. What was it like working on that set for your first film? Was it as fun as it looked?
FELISSA: It was more fun! We were all really young and best friends and we are still really close. It was a good family environment and actually felt like we were actually going to sleep away camp.
GWG: How long was it?
FELISSA: It was about six weeks. It was pretty much just like going to camp.
GWG: You returned to camp in 2008 to take on the role of Angela Baker again for the last instalment of the series- how did it feel like becoming Angela again?
FELISSA: It felt amazing. First of all anytime you are portraying a character for a role its like a child of yours because you nurture it, create it, you hopefully love it as well but now I was an adult so I could live out what I wanted to do as a child. I partied! (laughs)
GWG: You are a professionally trained and educated actor that has worked in almost a hundred films what has been the most important thing you've learned on or off set during your career?
FELISSA: Gratitude. I’m really, really thankful for the films I have worked on and sets I’ve been on. The actors, directors I’ve worked with...it’s all brought me a lot of joy.
GWG: You have had your hand at the pulse of both horror and punk rock as an actor as well as a producer- what makes these two genres and worlds collide so well?
FELISSA: The passion, the love for what we are all doing. It is loyalty and creativity unlike anything else.
GWG: Any upcoming projects you can tell us to look out for?
FELISSA: Yes but there’s a lot that I can’t talk which bums me out but soon enough it will all be coming out. Kane Hodder and I have a project called “Night Four” that is coming out soon. Working with director/writer Damien Churchill. There’s a lot that is happening and more conventions because I love meeting fans and talking with them all…giving out hugs!

Recently we had the great pleasure of attending the Hexploitation Film Festival in Hamilton, Ontario that showcases acclaimed independent horror features and short films from across the globe. As the festival celebrated its 10th annual showcase of films - program director and founder Aaron Allen introduced Canadian audiences for the first time ever to a film he credited as a nod to the Giallo era of cinema with a twist.
Crystal Eyes (Mirada de Cristal) takes place in Argentina in the mid 80’s in the competitive world of high end fashion and glamour. The film kicks off with ultra bitchy supermodel Alexis Carpenters gruesome death during a mishap during a fashion show and sets the tone for the rest of the feature film.
The moments following of the murder features an array of fashion professionals all capitalizing off the passing of the infamous model while fellow models and editors alike try to hastily replace Alexis spot at the top of the Argentinean fashion world.
This film flawlessly captures the aesthetic of the golden era of 1980’s horror from the perfect execution of its casting, costumes, set design and score. While other modern films have tried and failed at recreating a nostalgic portrayal of the eighties on screen; Toy Boys Movies production and directorial team have managed to get it right in so many ways.
Crystal Eyes has the bitchy mean girls that you can’t help but love to hate (which is essential in any good horror film when you actually think about it!), dream like lighting and a layer of creepiness that permeates on screen with every scene especially when the slasher (which is a female mannequin) is on the prowl.
This film gave us everything we needed and more in B-List/ Art House horror that we haven’t seen in decades. High end glamour, nostalgia infused set designs and costumes that were not only visually stunning but accurate to the era. The Canadian premiere of this film left audiences laughing but throughly entertained.
If you can appreciate the art of Giallo style horror and enjoy a campy cult like film this is one worth a watch and then some. If you were a fan of mannequin murder films (yes, this is totally a thing - trust us we sort of have a thing for it) like Canadian cult classic PIN or Maniac this is right up your alley. Think Phantom of the Mall meets Suspiria.
Crystal Eyes is authentically retro and a fun, weird ride from start to finish with a hearty dose of gore and glamour directed by award winning team Ezequiel Endelman and Leandro Montejano. Crystal Eyes ( Mirada de cristal ) was awarded the winner of multiple Hexploitiation Film Festival Scariest Film, Best Villain, Best Director (Ezequiel Endelman and Leandro Montejano), Best Actress (Erika Boveri) and Best Musical Score (Pablo Fuu) for the Hexploitation Film Festival.
We give this film 4.5 well polished mannequin hands out of 5.

This past Thursday my friends and I visited Bingemans’ haunted attraction, Screampark: The Experiment in Kitchener, ON. In its 13th season, guests are guided by creepy characters into nine “testing sites” which include a maze, claustrophobic tests and so much more. As first timers to this event, we had no idea what to expect, and our expectations were pretty high as we all are horror buffs. Needless to say, Bingemans Screampark did not disappoint! Screampark is an hour and a half full of surprises, and it is very well organized.
Throughout the experiment, there are many actors dressed as various tormented “subjects”, who jump out and scare guests at any chance they can get. This was a great touch to the Screampark, as you never know when someone could pop out and scare you! We truly enjoyed how well all the actors stayed in character throughout the entire experience.
We loved that there was no waiting time between each test site, as there is enough time spaced between different parties to experience the park on its own. It was also fun to walk in the dark woods between each testing site, and the red lighting in the forest with creepy music playing on hidden speakers was the perfect mood setting for a creepy night out. Our favourite area in the Screampark was the Ocular Observatory which was mind blowing. Try standing in this room for more than a few seconds without tipping over! We also loved how the half way point through the adventure was “The Dietary” which included food, drinks and alcoholic drinks for guests to purchase before beginning the second leg of the Screampark! Food included nachos, giant dill pickles, candy apples and much more.
Overall we had a great time, and would definitely recommend the drive out to Kitchener if you want to experience a well done haunted adventure! Be prepared to walk out in a creepy dark forest, get ran after by a psycho clown with a chainsaw…oh, and we hope you aren’t claustrophobic!
